How to display unreadable HTML code?

When I first started creating scroll boxes for html code, my computer would read the html code inside the box and display the image inside the box.

Like this:

I realized my computer was reading the html code inside the scroll box! I researched and found you have to alter the html code so your computer doesn't read the html code but display it instead! It's actually pretty simple to fix the code.

Here's what you do!!

So if a code looks like this unaltered:

<a href="http://jenieshell.blogspot.com">

it will now look like this once altered:

That's all you have to do so your computer won't read the html code in your scroll box! Just change the brackets!!

While researching I also found a really helpful site that will change your code with a click of a button. It's a lot less time consuming and it allows for less errors! All you have to do it paste in your html code and press the convert button. It's that easy!!

Hope this tutorial was helpful! Please give me feedback!! Thanks

Jen

When I went to grab a button like yours I could not get it to post on my blog. I did do the gadget thing but I could not get it to work. I guess sometimes I really do not know what I am doing. What you said was great and helpful but who knows if I could even do it.

Can you do a post about getting you tube on your blog page. I also wanted to do this but had a hard time with it. Not sure why either?

Ok so im only 14 chances are I did not do it right but im pretty techy so... I made my button but it has a little square inside of another square which inside of it has a tiny red square, blue triangle, and green circle. i can still click on it and it will link to my blog so i am just assuming it wont show the picture! when i tried to do the code the same picture came up! i did what you said and put the &tl; things in now it is the whole code that shows no scroll box or anything!

Hi Jen! Your tutorial was great; I just couldn't figure out the directions too well as a newbie on html on my own. I went to the link you posted that converted stuff so I didn't make an error, and TADA! It worked! Thanks so much!

Hey There,

All your info about making a blog button is AWESOME.

I am stuck at the changing the code so it doesn't read the html in my box below my button.

Do I change both the brackets around my website's link and the image link?

HELP HELP! :-)

I just found your blog - a very helpful friend sent me the link.

I design blog backgrounds, buttons, email buttons etc... and couldn't find ANY information on the web. So it took me several months, on and off, of constant experimenting to get the code to work. I ended up downloading an html writing programme - the whole thing!

So I could scream! Here you were, all along, and I could have saved myself all that stress. Thanks so much for a very clear, extremely well-written tutorial - and the other link, which will be very helpful in the future.

Thank you!!! With your many tutorials, I was able to create my simple button and put the scroll bar in. The button is still a little too big but I am going to wait until my husband the computer programmer comes home to help with that :) He was very proud of all that I was able to accomplish with your help though :) Thanks!!!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong... I feel like I am sooooo close and I would really love for people to be able to 'grab my button'- do I replace the code for every < and > that I see? or just the ones around my blog address! Hi Jen.

I was able to get my blog button onto my blog page but cannot for the life of me figure out how to do the scroll box with it. I tried and got the button in the scroll box, which I didn't want and then I converted all the < & > and got only the text, no button and no scroll box. I have spent way too much time on this. Can you help me?
